Luke 10:42: “One thing is needful …”
Martha and Mary. Sisters in contrast. Mary sits at Jesus’ feet to listen to him. Martha is busily working and distracted. In her frustration, she appeals to Jesus. She says, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
The entire episode plays out in Scripture in five verses. Yet Jesus’ response touches on the core issue of many believers in Christ: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
During this brief snapshot in her life, Jesus commends Mary for making the right choice among many. After all, there were other important things she could have been doing that day …
There is always more to do.
There are calls to make, appointments to attend, and people to see. Your job and your family make demands of you. Church life alone can present an entirely separate set of requests and requirements. There is no absence of activities we could be involved in.

Only one thing is of vital necessity, and that is, spending time with Him.
One day, while I was spending time with the Lord, He impressed this thought upon my heart: “Of all the things you have to do today, this is the most important.”

One Thing First. God loves you and He wants to meet with you - today!
